Braking Systems

When we get in our car or truck – we want to GO somewhere. But along the way, and when we get there, we usually need to do some slowing and stopping!

Your braking system consists of hydraulic action and friction material response. Most cars and trucks these days have four wheel disc braking systems, but there are still a lot with drum brakes – usually on the rear wheels.

So, when you put your foot on the brake pedal – it goes something like this:

Hydraulic brake fluid is forced out of a reservoir down to the wheels where . . . . . . . . . .

  • Disc: it causes the brake pads to press or squeeze in – until they contact a “disc” (your brake rotor).

  • Drum: it forces the brake “shoes” to press outward until they make contact with the inside surface of your brake drum.

The resulting friction stops the vehicle.

Did you follow all that? Here’s what you really need to know:

  • Good brakes are essential to safe driving

  • Brakes wear down

  • Brakes should be inspected regularly for wear and possible damage

At Inmon Automotive we check your brakes with every oil and filter service. We’ll let you know when it’s time to plan on replacing your pads or shoes. We’ll even take you out to your vehicle and show you why they need to be replaced.

They say you can’t stop the future and you can’t rewind your past – but you can stop your car or truck!
